Dear friends of Euroskillz! I have made the heart ripping decision to retire as Euroskillz manager and janitor. Therefore the servers have been cancelled but they will run to May 1 2010, so there is plenty of time still. But I will not renew them. I will make the content available so that anyone who feels like starting up something similar can do so. And anyone who feels like doing so can ask me for help setting things up. Personally I would love to come and visit a new TFC skills server.
The reasons? Well, 4 years is a long time managing these servers and I feel it is time to do something else. It is 4 years basically watching the servers on a daily basis. I just need a timeout.
The community "Euroskillz" will not die because of this. I will keep a webby and forum up and the #euroskillz irc channel on Quakenet and the Steam group. The 4 year old database with all your hard skillz work will also be saved.
We will see what future have to offer but Lt Llama will be on vacation after May 2010.

This is indeed sad news. Im sure everyone will want to join with me in thanking Llama for hosting such a great and fun service over the last years.
On a personal note, I know I havent been active on the servers but I have enjoyed the times Ive spent on irc.

Never before in the history of TFC has so much been owed by so many, to just one man.
It's been an honour and a personal privilege to have worked alongside you both on the servers and the forums, guild running can be a tough business! Your contribution to not just this community, but the game as a whole has been immense and I thank you for that. The servers have always been a truly dynamic and entertaining home for our little game these past 4 years.
Hopefully we can find a way to sustain some of the level the servers have reached, who can lead such a project I do not know.
Please keep in touch!

Thanks guys and I am trully honored that you have been riding along these years. Euroskillz wouldnt have been the same without Charlotte . Hope she stays a while longer . For finding someone who could manage the same operation on the same level, well that has to be one crazy mofo . But I do hope that this is not the last european TFC skills server around.

This news strike me with regret. But i really understand why you wish to take some time away from this constant maintenance of the servers. What you have managed to achieve with euroskillz is just plain unique, and it takes a unique type of person like yourself to keep something like this running, even through those bad days.
I think a great deal of people will be touched by this, even those of us that arent active. We're all used to the idea that when one of those days come, when you want to spend some time away from reallity, euroskillz is there to keep us satisfied. I really do hope that we can keep euroskillz alive with or without the servers!!

Meh, really sad to hear.. To me (and a lot of other people), for the most part, TFC is and was all about the Euroskillz servers the last few years. To see them go next year is really gonna be a shame and a major blow to TFC itself, losing 5 of the best servers it has to offer along with this great community. One of the best parts of Euroskillz has always been the great variety of maps/gamemodes and skill-levels you could choose from and of course the nice peeps who play in it, all the plugins etc..
Thanks for all the hard work you've put into it over these 4 years Llama, you've really given us the best possible place to play in when it comes to the skills and fun community of TFC.
Gah I'm gonna miss Euroskillz a lot =( Lets enjoy these last 6 months and go out with pride!

I'm relatively new around here in the grand scheme of things, but I think recently I got a fair insight into what it takes to run Euroskillz. With this insight I can safely say that you've earned a break. The effort you put into nurturing Euroskillz into a community, especially of late, wasn't paying dividends and it was time to let go. As disheartening as it is to say, tfc is coming to an end and frankly it's not worth the time, effort and the money involved to keep it alive.
The gratitude to one man, as White said, cannot quite be summed up in words. At some point in the future, I'm pretty sure we all have to get together and buy Llama a pint.

This is indeed sad news. Im not really active around TFC as much as I used to be, as I have more or less moved on myself but to hear Ez servers are going offline is a damn shame. Obviously this is just something that has to happen and Lt. Llama mate, you have done an AWESOME job with this community, and I feel really lucky to have been apart of it and to help admin your servers in the past.
3 cheers I say and GG everyone for making Euroskillz what it is and always will be.
Peace and Love - Jaxx
PS, will need to pop on to the servers and have one last play with you guys ! !

Its already been said more than once but this is a very sad day for euro TFC skillz, potentially the final nail in the coffin. I know when you started this little project up I was still in retirement from TFC however upon returning I found this such a warm, inviting place to play the game that I always loved. More so than any other server or community Euroskillz has provided an amazing atmosphere for concers both new and old, "n00b" and "1337". Personally I'm amazed at how long you actually kept this ship afloat almost single handedly, we admins have been little more than helpers for people with issues on the servers for the most part, your work behind the scenes, tweaking & fixing things has been whats made this such a great place. So yes, as much as it pains me to say goodbye I must admit if anyone has earned a rest it's yourself, and hopefully someone will come along to either keep euroskillz alive or open up another skill orientated server setup. I would like to thank you for all this work and for giving me the opportunity to work alongside you as an admin, guild leader, for mapping & avi help / advice / support / etc, and more than anything for being a good friend. Even if we both leave this little game that so entertained us these past 10 years you have to promise me you'll still say hi on msn from time to time always, ren

Thanks again. Now it feels all cuddly and warm here in my coffin. - OMG, let me out of here, i don't wanna die. In my book this little community and all our skillz & fun anscestors have built nothing less than a modern pyramid. So many man hours, not just mine. There has been a social prize tag for this though. Some of us payed that prize, to be part of this little miracle called TFC Skillz. Was it worth it? What did we achieve? Was it just escapism, a way to get away from building on our lifes, make something that last. Could it be possible to make something like this survive for ever? I would be a true dreamer if I said that I believe that. If gaming keeps on developing and the online life of people keeps getting more and more attention, then efforst like this will never just disappear, into oblivion. But it's not like we can go to the EU office and say, "Hey! We wan't funds to save our 10 year old gaming content for future generations to enjoy" . Today thats a pretty insane idea, but maybe not tomorrow. We can be happy Valve still keep their content servers up and running for TFC and all other old games they have. I could never have done this if there wasnt a bit of idealism involved. And I feel ashamed that I have taken this step and cancelled the servers. It came straight out of my heart building it, afraid I would loose some of the best online time I probably would ever get. A place where newbs and pros can game side by side without ripping out each others eyes. But you know. This life has grown to deep into me. I can't just cut this chunk out of my system and pretend it never happened. It has to be part of the "next step" for me. Thats why I call it a timeout. But to Gnu, if you wan't to prove that the TF2 fan boys are wrong, you know what you have to do .

To quote 1 of my favorite movies (even tho i dont think anyone here has seen it cos it's Flemish ) -you didn't expect we would be doing this forever right? and why not?! -mmm...ye... why would we not be doing it forever! I think thats kinda the feeling i had with this game to, and thats why i'm always the first to defend it and join the flamewars against tf2 fanboys. You just dont think it will end some day, and thats also what keeps you going to improve your skills or make more maps. But now that i know it's gonna end in a few months it feels useless somehow, because when Ez is gone i dont think there will be any new skills servers, and even when there is it just wont be the same again so i dont think theres much we can do to keep it alive. Imo this is the last decent community, the others just host a server but have no idea what the game is about, so even tho there are still people who gonna be playing the game i dont think i'm gonna be 1 of them because without this community feeling we are just a bunch of retards chasing a flag. And i don't think it's gonna get better in the future cos these days people are not dedicated anymore, they want casual games that they can play for a few hours then go on with their 'real life', it's sad there are no real nerds anymore I think some of us here still remember the days of playing quake in a dark basement on a crappy connection, we were not the most popular but atleast we could call ourself real gamers. But i think that era is about to end and so the real communities die to, we can't realy blame anyone for it and maybe we just have to move on to, although you silently keep hoping we will still be playing TFC when we are 80 years old

Although, im not really the type of person to write long speeches. Ill just sum this up in a few words.
Your a fooking legend.
Its been a long bumpy ride, id happily admit we have never seen eye to eye llama. But ill happily admit what you did to keep the eu community alive was pretty spectacular...
See you around

Gnu, there is nothing casual about how people play mmorpg games. And thats where you have your nerds. I think even you would be chocked about how nerdy an mmorpg player can be. I don't think dedication will go away. As long as some people have shitty lifes an escape to a game will always be very tempting. But what drives a mature mmorpg player is making cash. The fun part is soon history. But I can agree that the time it takes to develop the kind of skills like you have done, thats maybe not something people want to do. Thanks for the speech Emp
